Medical Reserve Corps (MRC)

Volunteer with the Williamson County Medical Reserve Corps (WilcoMRC)

The Medical Reserve Corps, or MRC, is a national network of local groups of volunteers committed to improving the health, safety and resiliency of their communities.  The Medical Reserve Corps is organized under the office of the United States Surgeon General.  The MRC was unveiled during President Bush’s 2002 State of the Union Address, in which he asked all Americans to volunteer in support of their country. The primary role of local MRC units is to supplement the public health and medical portions of the existing community emergency response system.

The Williamson County Medical Reserve Corps (WilcoMRC) is a team of trained volunteers which is headquartered within the Williamson County and Cities Health District (WCCHD).  The mission of the WilcoMRC is to help protect and promote the health and safety of the people of Williamson County during times of public health emergencies.  The WilcoMRC recruits, trains, builds and sustains a team of medical, public health and other (including those with no formal medical training) volunteers.  In order to be prepared for public health emergency response, the WilcoMRC is involved in community preparedness activities and training during periods of non-emergency.

By volunteering to serve with the WilcoMRC, area residents can help support the Williamson County and Cities Health District (WCCHD) by becoming part of a team of trained volunteers who prepare for and respond to public health emergencies.  In times of non-emergency, WilcoMRC volunteers can help with other efforts geared toward promoting the importance of good health, nutrition, safety and personal preparedness.
