Food Handler Training Requirements
Effective June 13, 2017 WCCHD will no longer issue Food Handler cards - see requirements below:
Due to changes in Texas Law, WCCHD now only requires an accredited food safety training program certification (see below). An additional card issued by WCCHD is not required.
All food employees working within the jurisdiction of Williamson County and Cities Health District require food handler safety training. Food handlers are individuals who work with open or unpackaged food, food equipment or utensils, or food contact surfaces. Food Handlers are required to receive basic training in the safety measures and dangers involved with preparing and handling food.
It is very important to realize that this training is a requirement by state rules and local regulations. Citations can be given to food handlers and businesses that do not obtain their training certification.
If you posess a Food Handler card from WCCHD you do not need to obtain additional training - the card is valid until the expiration date.
