American Community Survey - The American Community Survey (ACS) collects information such as age, race, income, commute time to work, home value, veteran status, and other important data from U.S. households. Every year the ACS can support the release of single-year estimates for geographic areas with populations of 65,000 or more. The ACS will accumulate sample over 3-year and 5-year intervals to produce estimates for smaller geographic areas including census tracts and block groups.

Local Survey Data
Youth Activity, Weight, and Nutrition (YAWN)
The obesity epidemic continues to be one of the most important health problems facing Texas today. To examine this issue at a local level, in 2001 and 2005 the Williamson County and Cities Health District (WCCHD) implemented the Youth Activity Weight and Nutrition (YAWN) survey. The YAWN survey evaluated priority health-risk behaviors, specifically unhealthy dietary behaviors, physical inactivity and overweight among Williamson County youth in grades 4th, 8th and 12th in three school districts. The results of the 2005 survey are provided in the summary report below.
For more information on the 2005 YAWN survey see our
Report Summary ( 1MB).

Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS)
BRFSS surveys are conducted to monitor the prevalence of the major behavioral risks among adults associated with premature morbidity and mortality, usually at the state level. In 1999 Williamson County was one of ten counties in Texas selected to participate in the BRFSS. The most recent survey was conducted in the summer of 2004.
