Community Gardens
WCCHD's award-winning community gardening program serves many purposes to the
community — it's a “classroom” for children and a place to play, it's a resource
that supports active and healthy lifestyles, and it encourages social
interactions and helps beautify the county.
But most importantly, the gardens are a place to grow organic fruits,
vegetables, and herbs for anyone that would like a garden or would like to
learn how to garden. The WCCHD Heritage Community Garden in Georgetown and the
Taylor Community Garden are accessible to community members who would like to
adopt a garden plot.
Gardening Classes
In addition to the community gardens program, WCCHD
sponsors Expert Gardener certification classes taught by WCCHD horticulturist
Natalie Vreeland. These classes are designed to “take the mystery out of
gardening in central Texas,” Vreeland says. For information about the class
visit the Community Gardens website at
www.wcgardens.org or contact the Heritage
Community Garden Coordinator by
email or
by phone at (512) 943-3671.
