Food Handler Training Requirements
Food handlers are considered people who work with, or may work with open or
unpackaged
food. All
Williamson County cities require that individuals working with food, involved in
the preparation of food, or serving food to the general public receive basic training
in the safety measures and dangers involved with preparing and handling food.
It
is very important to realize that this training is a requirement by ordinance
and citations can be given to food handlers and businesses that do not get
their cards. A card issued by WCCHD is only
valid only in Williamson County. Satisfactory completion of the one-hour
training is required every 1-2 years. For more information please call (512) 248-7617.
Train The Trainer and Spanish Classes
To make it easier to attend a class and acquire a food handler card, we have
developed a Train The Trainer and Spanish language class. Food managers that
have already been trained by WCCHD can take a class that allows them to train
their own employees. Managers that attend the class receive a four year food
handler card and will be given instructions on how to train their employees. See
below for dates and times of Spanish and Train The Trainer classes.
